Who is doing what in the Fens
FensNetwork diagram is an interactive visualisation of the many organisations, projects, and initiatives working in the Fens, UK. It was built on the Kumu platform to allow users to explore connections between initiatives, see how projects fit together, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

About the Project
The FensNetwork diagram was created to address the need for a comprehensive, joined-up overview of who is working on what in the Fens.
The Fens are a unique and special landscape, crucial to the UK economy. Home to around half a million people, the region produces a third of the England’s vegetable output. However, the historical drainage of peat for agriculture has come at a cost, leading to greenhouse gas emissions, peat degradation, biodiversity loss, and increased risks of both drought and flooding.
There is an urgent need for a holistic, inclusive, and sustainable approach to protect the Fens for future generations.
The FensNetwork diagram collates information about projects and organisations in one place, helping stakeholders, project owners and the public to:
- See how initiatives relate to one another
- Locate projects and organisations by topics or sites
- Identify gaps and opportunities for collaboration
- Access further information and contact details
How to Use the FensNetwork diagram
The map is interactive and cannot be damaged—feel free to explore. Key features include:
- Zoom and drag: Use the symbols at the top right. The third button fits the network to the screen. Drag the map by left-clicking and moving it.
- Search: Use the top-left search box to find a project, organisation, topic or site. Broad themes (e.g., peat, birds, museums) can be explored via the Tags drop-down at the bottom centre.
- Connections: Hover over a symbol to see linked projects and organisations.
- Details: Double-click a symbol, then click the three grey dots on the left to open the information panel with project details and contact info.

Feedback and Updates
This is a living resource and will be updated regularly. Please help improve the FensNetwork diagram by sharing:
- Errors you notice
- Missing projects or organisations
- Suggestions for improvements
We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the development of the map and helped keep it up to date. The resource depends on the insight, collaboration, and generosity of those working across the Fens, and their input ensures that it remains an accurate, evolving reflection of the region’s many projects and partnerships, supporting continued connection and shared progress.
Maintaining the FensNetwork diagram
We will curate this network to ensure it remains relevant and useful. This involves adding new projects, archiving (but not removing) completed projects, and correcting any errors. We can only do this with your help, so if you notice anything that needs updating, please contact Helen Driver at hvd23@cam.ac.uk.
